A new look

Action Launcher strives to be a colorful, customizable and accessible home screen app. We’ve now got a new icon that aims to convey exactly this.

A new pillar feature — Action Search

Action Launcher v40 introduces Action Search, a year-in-the-making new pillar feature that allows for deep searching across the web, your apps & contacts, your in-app search history and even Android and Action Launcher’s settings!

Always being just a few keystrokes away from jumping to a specific system or Action Launcher setting is particularly powerful — in Action Launcher’s case you can locate and even change a user setting right from your home screen!

Action Search’s theme is of course fully customizable, so you’re not stuck looking at white search suggestions.

Look under your seat…

Best of all, Action Search is available to all Action Launcher users, whether or not they’ve previously bought the one-time Plus upgrade.

Action Search is a powerful feature that we hope you will instantly come to love.

Action Web Search

Accompanying the in-app Action Search feature is Action Web Search — a custom built, externally hosted, Action Launcher themed web search solution that displays web, news, image and video search results.

Action Web Search is an exploration of a supplementary (and perhaps eventually alternate) revenue model for Action Launcher. You can read more about the business reasons for this move here.

A quick note on Action Web Search and privacy: Action Launcher has never had any concept of a user account or login. Action Launcher is incapable of linking the apps you load to your identity, and the same is true of your web searches.

New search engine options

It’s not exactly breaking news to suggest that in 2019 many of us are becoming increasingly conscious of how much private information we’re giving up as we use digital services.

In response to this trend and general user feedback, Action Launcher v40 introduces the ability to specify the app’s default search engine. In addition to Google and the aforementioned Action Web Search, native support for Bing and DuckDuckGo have been added.

Rounding out the release

Also new in Action Launcher v40 is a much requested vertical screen padding option (🎉🎆).

Finally, the update contains a few key bug fixes, notably the improving of app boot time, the fixing of a nasty memory leak and reduction in app reloads.

We’ll be closely listening to user feedback on Action Launcher v40, so please let us know your thoughts!
